About the Author

Hello, my name is Ron Balbuena, and I am the designer of this website.  I'm currently attend the UCLA School of Public Health going for my M.P.H. with an emphasis in Biostatistics.

My main impetus for choosing marrow donation as the topic of this website was from my experience of donating marrow to a leukemia patient in September 1997.  The patient's name is Baxter Chua.  He is now 12 years old and lives in Malaysia.  To read more about my experience, please visit my personal home page.

Shortly after donating marrow, I joined Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches, a recruitment group of the National Marrow Donor Program.  It was there that I learned how difficult it is for patients to find donors as well as donors to find patients.  This is even more pronounced in the Asian Pacific Islander and other minority communities.

Baxter and I are truly lucky to have found one other.
